FarmhouseThe Victorian Wing of Stockham Farm, near Dulverton (Somerset) is a spacious self-contained wing of a traditional period Exmoor farmhouse, situated in the hills just 1.4 miles from the small town of Dulverton, in the beautiful Exmoor National Park. Sleeps up to 4 guests and is pet-friendly.
Dulverton is just 1.4 miles from Stockham Farm and is full of great places to eat. Woods Bar and Restaurant (by Royal approval!) and The Bridge Inn are very popular and you often need to book. However you can often grab a table at The Lion Hotel or the excellent Tongdam Thai Restaurant (with a delicious take away menu that will be available at the cottage). If it’s a great cup of coffee or a cream tea you are after, look no further than Tantivy, Mortimers or The Copper Kettle. And don’t forget Dulverton’s fab Fish and Chip shop too. For eating and drinking out further afield all of the following come highly recommended… Tarr Farm Inn at Tarr Steps; The Royal Oak, Withypool; The Royal Oak, Winsford; The Swan, Bampton; The George, Brompton Regis; The London Inn, Molland; The Notley Arms, Monksilver; the Tea Rooms at Withypool and Winsford; the National Trust-owned Hunter’s Inn, Heddon Valley (with a fabulous half hour walk to the sea), and the Masons Arms at Knowstone (with a Michelin star no less!).
Completely self-contained, The Victorian Wing of the farmhouse at Stockham Farm has an impressive front door, leading into the porch (great for removing muddy boots and drying off muddy paws). The sitting-room is welcoming and characterful and boasts underfloor heating, as well as a fabulous inglenook fireplace with a wood-burning stove! Comfy chairs and sofa, bookcases, board games and a smart TV, ensure all creature comforts are there for you.
A few steps lead up to a half-landing where you will find the entrance into the bespoke kitchen-breakfast room, with views of the orchard from the old pine table. On the opposite side of the hall is the bathroom, which comprises a power shower over the bath, toilet and hand basin. Both kitchen and bathroom have underfloor heating, and the kitchen has a dishwasher, washing machine and microwave in addition to the ceramic hob and fan assisted oven.
Stairs lead up to the first floor where the bedrooms are; two cosy, comfortable bedrooms with lovely views across the paddocks to the hills beyond. One bedroom has a king-size bed and the other has a super-king bed that can be made up as twin beds on request. Please make this request at the time of booking.
Bed linen and towels are provided for use, but please bring your own beach towels and dog towels (if appropriate).
A welcome pack of a bottle of sparkling wine, home-made scones, Cornish clotted cream, locally made jam and a small bottle of milk. You will find a small quantity of tea, coffee, sugar, olive oil etc. in the kitchen to get you started.
Heating and electricity are included in the price of the accommodation. The ground floor has underfloor heating, plus there are radiators upstairs. A large pile of logs will be provided for the wood burning stove, including a small quantity of kindling, firelighters and matches.
The Victorian Wing has really good wifi (provided by satellite) that extends throughout the cottage and outside too! 4G reception is also good, as is mobile reception for EE and Three.
Well behaved dogs welcome (maximum of 3) for £30 supplement per dog. Sorry, no puppies (aged less than 12 months). Please do not allow your dogs upstairs, on the furniture or leave them unattended.
We also welcome horses to stay with their owners at Stockham Farm. We are experienced equestrians ourselves and the farm has British Horse Society ‘Horses Welcome’ accreditation. The riding out from Stockham is fabulous, with no need to use roads to reach moorland, fields, riverside tracks, woodland etc. Horses are charged at £25 per horse/pony per night either on DIY livery in beautiful stone stables or on turnout in fenced paddocks. Hay and straw included in the price.
